1. Klausberg – Klaussee

Zimmerhofer’s local mountain combines an easy cable-car ride with an alpine lake and broad views. The valley station is only about 150 metres from the apartments.

The gondola and chairlift reach about 2,400 metres. Panorama trails overlook the Zillertal Alps, the Rieserferner group and the Dolomites.

3. Reinbach Falls

Three waterfalls and the St Francis trail form one of the best-known natural attractions near Sand in Taufers. The official route gives around 75 minutes and 300 metres of ascent.

4. Kasern – Holy Spirit

The head of the valley at Kasern is a gentle introduction to high-alpine scenery. The Holy Spirit chapel is a memorable destination for a relaxed family day.

Above Luttach, the Schwarzbach drops through a narrow rocky cleft. Depending on fitness, the waterfall can be combined with a longer route towards the alpine hut.

The reservoir lies at about 1,860 metres beneath major Zillertal peaks. Its circuit is described as pushchair-friendly; the access road is narrow, tolled and summer-only.

7. Neves high trail

A long high-alpine route above the reservoir with impressive glacier and summit views. It is much harder than the lake circuit and requires fitness, experience and stable weather.

8. Rein in Taufers – Knuttenalm in the Ahrntal Valley

The Knutten valley enters the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park and follows a broad valley route to a popular hut. Extensions towards Klammlsee are more demanding.

These lakes above Rein are among the quieter alpine destinations. The route requires good fitness and secure footing on mountain terrain.
